Cannymoney, made plain

A free budgeting app for Android

Knows your money.
Tells no one.

Canny keeps your entire budget on your phone — balance, bills, goals, every spend — and nowhere else. No account. No cloud. No AI. It works with the internet switched off, because nothing about your money ever needs to leave the device.

A direct download from GitHub — you install it yourself, not through the Play Store. Free, with every feature included.

Canny's home screen: total balance €1,336.00, fun money left today €20 per day for the next 13 days, a spending trend line, and gentle pace nudges.
Real screens throughout — Canny's dark theme

01The one number

It answers one question: what's safe to spend today?

Rent, bills and savings come off first. What's left is genuinely yours, paced through the month and re-reckoned the moment you log a spend. Overspend on Tuesday and Wednesday knows.

No dashboards to interpret, no charts doing the talking over you — one honest figure, kept honest.

02Where your data goes

What Canny sends.

Most apps say private and mean encrypted on our servers. Canny means there are no servers. Here is a full month of budgeting, as your network sees it:

Network activity — one month of daily use

  • your balancenowhere
  • every transactionnowhere
  • your bills & goalsnowhere
  • your bank loginnever asked for
  • your locationnever read
  • who you arenever learned
requests made0

One honest exception, once ever: the first time you open Canny, it sends a single empty ping — “someone installed this” — to a counter we run ourselves. No identifier, no content, and it never happens again. It's the only request the app ever makes, and the privacy policy is short enough to check that.

And no AI. On purpose.

Not a chatbot, not a copilot, not “smart insights” — none, deliberately, and it will stay that way. A budget is arithmetic, and arithmetic doesn't need your financial life shipped to a data centre. Canny's nudges are plain rules: predictable, explainable, and they work in a tunnel.

Turn on airplane mode.
Canny doesn't notice.

This page keeps the same manners — one file, no analytics, no trackers, nothing loaded from anywhere but this site. View source; it's all there.

03What it does

The whole habit, in four screens.

Envelopes

A place for every euro.

Every category gets a monthly envelope, tagged need, want or save. The plan has to balance — paycheck in, budgets out, to the cent — so drift shows up the day it starts, not at the end of the month.

Canny's Plan tab: envelopes for rent €900, food €300, bills €120 and more — paycheck €2,400, total budgets €2,400, and the line “Your plan balances exactly.”
Bills

Bills that keep themselves.

Recurring bills know when they're due and when they're paid — one tap to settle, undo when your thumb slips, and your balance kept in step. Rent never ambushes you on the 1st.

Canny's recurring bills, about €1,075 a month: internet, water and rent still due with Mark paid buttons; Netflix, the gym and car insurance already ticked off.
The review deck

One card at a time.

The weekly review deals your spending as cards. Swipe right if it looks right, left to flag it — a week sorted in the time the kettle takes.

Canny's weekly review: one spending card at a time — Bistro du Coin, minus €34, tagged Dining out — with the next card already dealt behind it.
Goals

Watch the months add up.

Savings goals with a real finish line, topped up whenever you like — and insights that set your months side by side, so the trend is something you can see rather than guess.

Canny's goals: Holiday at 72% — €720 of €1,000 — with an emergency fund and a new-laptop fund below, each with its own progress bar.

04The method

One income, three jobs.

Canny reads your plan through the classic 50 / 30 / 20 lens — needs, wants, savings — with gentle pace nudges through the month. Encouraging, never nagging.

And if 50/30/20 doesn't fit your life, change the numbers. They're yours.

€2,400
needs 50%
€1,200
wants 30%
€720
save 20%

Just arithmetic, done on this page — nothing sent anywhere. Same as the app.

05Budget together

Two phones. One Wi-Fi. No cloud.

Partner sync happens over your own network: two phones find each other and merge, directly. There's no server in the middle — there isn't a server at all.

YOUR WI-FI €1,240 YOU €1,240 PARTNER

06Plain terms

What's the catch?

There isn't one.

  • Free.

No price, no third-party ads, no premium upsell. Canny has nothing to run — no servers, no accounts — and nothing to run means nothing to charge for. The whole app, for everyone.

  • Private.

No account, no cloud, no AI, no bank link. Nothing is uploaded, because there's nowhere to upload it to — and nothing on a server means nothing to leak.

  • Yours.

Your data, in your hands: back up and export any time as a plain file you control. Move phones however you like — no lock-in, nothing held hostage.

One more thing, and you should hear it from us rather than find it yourself: Canny mentions Budgetto — our own grocery-shopping app — in exactly two places. In Settings, because the two pass your food budget between them; and once in your pay-period review, if your groceries envelope has gone over two periods running — where a tap hides it for good. Nobody pays us to put it there, nothing else ever gets recommended, and because nothing leaves your phone, no third party ever learns you saw it.
